Recent Interest in Hydrogen Peroxide Sterilization in Health Care Settings
Hydrogen peroxide sterilization has been utilized in health care settings since 1990s, however there has been recent interest in this technology due to several factors such as new recommendations to move from high level Disinfection (HLD) or liquid chemical sterilization of flexible endoscopes to sterilization. Physicochemical characteristics of vaporized hydrogen peroxide enables it to be utilized for sterilization of medical devices in lower temperatures. A description of typical cycle steps, capabilities and limitations of this modality will be discussed along with the sterility assurance and quality control approach.
