Target Normothermia:
A Global Focus on Inadvertent Hypothermia
Incorporating patient temperature monitoring as a quality process improvement initiative, with hypothermia rates as an outcome measure, needs to be a focus point for hospitals. In an effort to examine the global prevalence of inadvertent hypothermia, we implemented a simple, standardized temperature monitoring protocol, known as Target Normothermia, which reflects existing patient temperature management recommendations from global healthcare organizations and physician experts.
Through this process improvement effort, data from 49 hospitals across 6 continents involving 9,274 patients was submitted by participating facilities to the Outcomes Research department at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation for analysis. Now, you can discover the outcome of this truly global initiative!
