Protection of control automotive electronics in harsh environments with 3M™ Novec™ Electronic Grade Coatings

  • Today, electronic devices are present everywhere, and they are expected to remain reliable in the most challenging environments particularly in safety critical applications such as automotive electronics assembly in the passenger cabin. Automotive electronic devices are more compact and sophisticated than ever, which can make it challenging to protect components from environmental contaminants.

Increasingly compact and sophisticated electronics, such as automotive electronic devices, are highly susceptible to environmental contaminants, such as moisture, sulfur, pollution and grime. Without proper protection, sensitive electronic components can quickly corrode, often leading to electrical shorts, poor performance and device failure. 3M™ Novec™ Electronic Grade Coatings are clear, low viscosity, low surface tension solutions of a fluorinated polymer carried in a segregated hydrofluoroether solvent. They form coating films designed to repel and protect against moisture, chemicals and corrosion.

What we will cover in this webinar:

  • Properties of 3M Novec ultrathin Coatings and what value they can add to your process
  • Sustainability and safety features
  • How Novec coatings are applied to protect electronic devices against moisture and other contaminants
  • Illustrations where Novec coatings have already been adopted by Automotive Electronics
  • A guest speaker from Nordson will explain the coating process and will introduce the devices used for applying Novec coatings
