Webinar Synopsis

Two esteemed presenters Dr. Devinder Singh and Dr. Chilton Chong take a detailed look at breast reconstruction practices, focusing on pre-pectoral breast reconstruction, and the patient and procedural risk factors impacting outcomes, whilst exploring risk-mitigation strategies to enhance patient recovery after surgery. Presentations will be followed by a panelist discussion from 8 ANZ Breast Surgeons and Breast Care Nurses, facilitated by the Australasian Society for Breast Disease.

Webinar Learning Outcomes

This webinar aims to equip surgeons and multidisciplinary team members with the knowledge and skills to adapt to the evolving breast care landscape of implant-based reconstruction.

  • Understand key elements in breast reconstruction
  • Understand short-term complications post nipple-sparing mastectomy with implant reconstruction
  • Explore various tools that observe and enhance tissue perfusion
  • Understand the literature supporting negative pressure as a role in post-operative recovery in breast reconstruction

Topics covered will include:

  • “Pre Pectoral Implant reconstruction, technique and outcome optimization”, Prof. Devinder Singh, plastic surgeon Miami USA. This talk will cover modern techniques of implant placement and the role of closed incision negative pressure wound therapy
  • “Short term complications post-nipple sparing/ skin sparing Mastectomy and Implant Reconstruction”, Dr Chilton Chong, Breast Surgeon, Melbourne, Victoria. The speaker will provide a detailed overview of prevention and management of complications in reconstructive implant surgery.

With case presentation and panel discussion facilitated by Dr Peter Chin, president of ASBD and Dr. Elisabeth Elder, executive director of ASBD.
The distinguished panel members include surgeons Peter Chin, Elisabeth Elder, Chilton Chong, James French, Sanjay Warrier, Farid Meybodi, Josie Todd and breast care nurse Lee Alexander.


Speaker Biography:

  • Professor Devinder Singh

    Dr. Devinder Singh is Chief & Program Director of Plastic Surgery at University of Miami and Jackson Health Systems. He is a Professor of clinical surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, specializing in breast reconstruction including microvascular surgery.

    Dr. Singh has held faculty appointments at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Medicine, and was the Chief of Plastic Surgery at VA Baltimore and subsequently at Anne Arundel Medical Center (Luminis Health System) in Annapolis. In 2014, the Governor promoted Dr. Singh to Chair the state medical board, which is responsible for quality assurance in the practice of medicine. The Maryland state medical board is very active in licensing physicians, enforcing discipline, and creating policy.

    With 75 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and other publications to his name, Dr. Singh is an expert and national leader in his specialty.

    Dr. Singh has given hundreds of lectures and presentations locally, across the country, and internationally. He is a member of the American Association of Plastic Surgeons and American Society of Plastic Surgeons, where he has led multiple committees including Chair of Legislative Advocacy Committee and Vice Chair of breast implant safety subcommittee on Breast Implant Associated – Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma.


    Dr. Chilton Chong

    Dr. Chilton Chong became an associate surgeon of the Southern Breast Oncology in 2014. He is a medical graduate of the University of Melbourne and underwent fellowship training in Adelaide specialising in breast, thyroid and parathyroid surgery before undertaking a fellowship at the Royal Perth Hospital where he specialised in Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast surgery.

    Dr. Chilton is certified by the Australian Society of Ultrasound Medicine for clinician-performed ultrasound and is a member of Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons. He is also Adjunct Lecturer in Surgery at Monash University and is a recipient of the John Collins Fellow Medal from the Australian and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group.
