Skin cannot be sterilised; however, with 3M™ Ioban™ 2 Antimicrobial Incise Drapes you can create an aseptic surface all the way to the wound edge, providing continuous, broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity throughout the surgical procedure.

The iodine in 3M™ Ioban™ 2 Antimicrobial Incise Drape is shown to be present in the deeper layers of the skin (down to 1000 microns) where hair follicles exist. ²

Chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), in skin preps, demonstrates poor permeation at deeper skin depths. Below a depth of 300 microns, CHG concentration may not be effective for killing bacteria. ³
